Detention and other Pretrial Measures against 10 Persons within Criminal Case Initiated on Mass Disorders at Intersection of Proshyan and Demirchyan Streets of Yerevan Organized by Organizers of “Resistance” Movement

Preliminary investigation of the criminal case initiated on organizing mass disorder and taking part in them during the rally in Proshyan Street of Yerevan by “Resistance” movement of political opposition on June 3 is ongoing in General Department of Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of the RA Investigative Committee.

It was earlier informed that organized and directed by the leaders of “Resistance” movement those involved in the rally had tried to break the police chain at the intersection of Proshyan and Demirchyan streets and go towards Demirchyan Street to the RA National Assembly.

The participants of the rally, not obeying the legal requirements of the police officers, had hit them with stones, metal bars, hammers, bottles as well as other items using violence against them trying to break the police chain putting the public security at risk.

In the result of the actions of those involved in mass disorder more than 40 police officers had received bodily injuries of different gravities and some of them had received inpatient treatment.

The actions of the participants of the mentioned mass disorder had been suspended by the police officers carrying out service duties at the site.

During preliminary investigation of the criminal case decisions were made to involve 15 persons as a defendant; charge was pressed against them according to the Part 2 of the Article 225 of RA Criminal Code. Detention was chosen as a pretrial measure against 10 of them, non-custodial pretrial measures were used against 4, one person was involved as a defendant and a decision on arrest was made to submit a motion to court to choose detention as a pretrial measure against him.

Necessary measures are taken together with the employees of the RA National Security Service and the RA Police to identify those having organized the mass disorders and others involved in them, to bring them to the investigative body.

Preliminary investigation is ongoing.

Note; Everyone charged with alleged crime offence shall be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law.
